1/ Free web hosts: www.tripod.com or another goodie is www.geocities.com (run by the Yahoo crowd.) You can get a web
site with a sub domain name such as www.michelecoker.tripod.com or www.geocities.com/michelecoker/ These are completely free.
Follow their instructions on how to set up your web pages. They also offer an email address.
2/ .co.nz name: If however, you want a site with your own domain name such as www.candyland.co.nz, a good domain
name registrar for .co.nz names is www.freeparking.co.nz. For about $45 you can get a .co.nz name. Included free in this price
is URL redirection. This means when someone types in your domain name such as www.candyland.co.nz, they will be "redirected"
to another URL which could be your free web site, such as http://candyland.theshoppe.com. (This free site is run by www.freeservers.com)
or
www.michelecoker.tripod.com.
3/ .com names: A good cheap registrar is either www.gandi.net or (we use) www.dirtcheapdomains.com for US$8 per domain
name. (you must buy 2 years though.) There is also registerfly.com, for US$10, They will also do URL redirection and email
redirection.
4/ Email redirection: www.dirtcheapdomains.com will redirect your
mick@michelecoker.com to any other email address you might have, eg a hotmail address.
5/ search engines: try www.addme.com to add your domain name to various search engines. Many of the free sites aren't
picked up very well by many search engines though.
6/ Other useful sites: www.free.com, www.freestuff.com, for anything free!
www.email.com, www.hotmail.com, www.yahoo.com,for
email addresses.
www.150m.com (if you have a web site created on an editor such as publisher or frontpage, etc, 150m.com
will upload your site. They do not have an editor like tripod or geocities.)
If you have any more advice on ways you
have set up your sites, we'd like to hear about them and we'll include this info for others to read here.
